From 18 to 20 February, the second edition of the c4c Expert Day took place in Lille, France. More than 80 experts from industry, academia, and healthcare gathered to discuss the latest developments in paediatric medicines research.
Key Highlights
The programme featured:
- 3 plenary sessions and panel discussions
- 8 breakout sessions on topics such as AI, Health Technology Assessment, ethical considerations, antimicrobial resistance, paediatric formulations, modelling and extrapolation.
- Over 19 speakers, with participants joining both onsite and online.
Key themes included the evolving European paediatric regulatory landscape, translating research into clinical practice, and the value of expert advice in shaping more efficient and patient-centred clinical trials.
Spotlight on Innovation: AI and Digital Integration
A standout topic was the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital tools in transforming paediatric clinical research. Sessions explored how AI is being used to improve trial design, patient recruitment and data analysis, while also raising important questions about validation and ethical safeguards, particularly when applying adult-trained models to children’s care.
Digital data integration was also highlighted as a key enabler for more efficient, transparent, and standardised trial processes, with initiatives such as CDISC 360 and the Digital Data Flow paving the way for more seamless data management.
Addressing Antimicrobial Resistance in Children
The threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) was another critical discussion point. While AMR remains relatively stable in high-income countries, it continues to grow in low- and middle-income settings. The session underscored the need for cross-sector collaboration, responsible stewardship, and investment in new treatments and diagnostics to protect vulnerable paediatric populations.
Impact and Outlook
The c4c expert advisory service continues to expand, having delivered over 60 scoping interviews and 48 advisory sessions to date, across 20 disease areas. With a growing emphasis on sustainability and broadening its global impact, the community is committed to fostering collaboration, innovation, and patient engagement.
The day once again highlighted the power of cross-sector dialogue in accelerating access to safe and effective medicines for children.
We thank all participants, speakers, and the dedicated organising team for making this year’s Expert Day a great success!
